EXPLORING ANTARCTICA		RESEARCH PROJECTS
		The main theme of the Malaysian Antarctic Research Program is to study the linkages, similarity or differences of either atmospheric processes or biological processes between Antarctic environment and the tropic environment. The Malaysian Antarctic Research Program Taskforce decided that the program would concentrate its research in the following fields: Atmospheric Sciences Biological Sciences Radio Communication Science At present, there are 15 scientific research projects being carried out by Malaysian scientists as follows: Role of Gravity Waves in the Dynamic on the Stable Boundary Layer in the Ross Ice Shelf . Modelling and Observational Studies of Antarctic Katabatic (MOSAK) Remote sensing and modelling of sea ice in the Ross Sea . Polar Atmospheric Water Vapour/Ionospheric Sensing Using GPS Microalgal Diversity. Occurrence of fungi in extreme environment. Diversity and metabolic abilities of Antarctic bacteria Evolution and diversity of Antarctic periphytic algae. Biodiversity of the benthic invertebrate fauna in Antarctic marine ecosystem. Understanding of adaptive mechanism through gee and enzyme studies of Antarctic microbes. Bacteria biodegradation and bioremediation of hydrocarbon in Antarctic. Geological and Geophysical Investigations in Antarctica . Geological and biological indicators of sea level and climate change in the Antarctic and the sub-Antarctic Regions. Chemical weathering of soil around Maitri. Phylogenetic analysis of bacteria and screening for those with anti-microbial activity Profiling hydrocarbons deposition, vertical transport and mobilization in Antarctica
